About Us
Scouting America - Long Island
Long Island Council prepares youth for life through outstanding programs that inspire, build character and instill the values that young people need to succeed today. The Long Island Council is the local chapter of Scouting America serving Nassau and Suffolk counties. Led by a team of dedicated professionals and an Executive Board of community and business leaders, we serve more than 10,000 Scouts and powered by thousands of volunteer leaders.
Discovery is at the heart of Scouting. Whether it’s a campout, derby car race, or hike on the trail, we believe every adventure helps us uncover a little more about ourselves. We build the foundations for humility and compassion—strengthening character through actions—to prepare youth for a lifetime of leadership.

Our Service Centers & Scout Shops
The Council operates two Service Centers and Scout Shops at the Doucette Scout Leadership Center in Massapequa, NY and Brookhaven Town Hall in Farmingville, NY. Our Service Centers provide guidance, literature, program support, and assistance to units, volunteers, families, and community members. Located within each Service Center is a fully stocked Scout Shop, your one-stop destination for uniforms, handbooks, camping gear, recognition items, advancement badges, and official BSA merchandise. As authorized BSA distributors, our Scout Shops ensure that every Scout and leader has the tools they need to succeed in the Scouting program.
Our Camps
The Council operates 3 year-round camping facilities at Baiting Hollow Scout Camp in Calverton, NY, Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River, NY, and Onteora Scout Reservation in Livingston Manor, NY. These properties offer a wide range of outdoor programs and facilities that support Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and community activities throughout the year. From summer camp and weekend camping to training events and special programs, our camps provide meaningful experiences that build leadership, character, and lifelong skills. Each location offers unique natural settings that allow Scouts to explore, learn, and grow while enjoying the adventure of the outdoors.
