Who We Are

The Theodore Roosevelt Council delivers the programs of Scouting America to the youth of Nassau County, NY. We work in partnership with local chartering organizations, community partners, parents and more than 2,000 volunteers to help serve the nearly 5,500 youth registered to Scouting programs. The Council name pays tribute to the first Council Commissioner and the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. Headquartered in Massapequa, our Council is one of the oldest in the nation and is home to the first Eagle Scout, Arthur R. Eldred, from Rockville Centre, NY.

Scouting America provides the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training, which helps young people be “Prepared. For Life.®” The Scouting organization is composed of more than 1 million youth members between the ages of 5 and 21 and more than 628,000 volunteers in local councils throughout the United States and its territories.

Doucette Scout Leadership Center

The Doucette Scout Leadership Center, located at 544 Broadway in Massapequa, NY, serves as the headquarters of the Theodore Roosevelt Council, Scouting America. This facility is the heart of Scouting in Nassau County—providing essential resources, program support, and meeting space for Scouts, leaders, and volunteers. It houses the council’s professional offices and is a place where leadership is nurtured and the mission of Scouting is brought to life.

The center is named in honor of Distinguished Eagle Scout Dr. David R. Doucette, a lifelong champion of Scouting values. An accomplished engineer and educator, Dr. Doucette earned his Eagle Scout rank in 1961 and went on to achieve excellence in both his career and service to the community. He has held leadership roles in major engineering firms, taught for over 40 years at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, and made lasting contributions as a mentor, philanthropist, and Scouting advocate. His dedication to the Scout Oath and Law continues to inspire generations of youth and volunteers.

The Doucette Scout Leadership Center stands as a testament to his legacy of leadership, service, and commitment to shaping future leaders through Scouting.
